CCAM’s collaboration with SAAVA sees film projects presented under Malaysia: Country of Highlight at the SAFF Film Project Market 2016

Kuala Lumpur, 28 October 2016  - 5 Malaysian film projects in the early stages of development and financing have been selected to participate at the  upcoming Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Project Market 2016 held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore in December. The projects TERBALIK (dir; Yasu Tanaka), THE FLYING TIGER (dir. Naeim Ghalili), THE WAVE (dir. Jose Wei Ping Leong), DEVOTED (dir. Tony Pietra Arjuna), and SAMA LAUT (dir. Madnor Kassim) are now closer to being realized as they will be matched  to a global network of media financiers, distributors and collaborators.

Calls for submission were made early August and closed mid September. The domination of Malaysian projects amongst the 15 selected from ASEAN countries were due to the collaboration between Creative Content Association Malaysia (CCAM) and  Southeast Asian  Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) in which the film projects will be featured under the “Malaysia: Country of Highlight” banner at the Project Market. Close to 60 film projects were received by SAAVA from Malaysian companies.

“We take pride on our collaboration with SAAVA, a strategic and important partnership enabling Malaysian feature film content creators to present their film projects under one Malaysian banner. This is a significant program that was first initiated at the Cannes Film Market last May when CCAM represented the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS),” says Dato’ Mahyidin Mustakim, Chief Executive Officer of CCAM. “It places our talents on an international platform, their projects carefully selected by an international, independent panel with an emphasis on international appeal,” he adds.

"There's a growing sense of excitement around Southeast Asian content, especially from Malaysia. We're happy to invite and gather these 5 projects under our inaugural country spotlight and match them with the best co-producers and financiers from around the world. Each of these projects have unique qualities and can take Malaysian made content to the next level," added Justin Deimen, Executive Director of the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association and Group Managing Partner of Aurora Media Capital.

SAFF 2016 will be held from 7 9 December at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, facilitating meetings and interactions between filmmakers with upcoming film projects and potential buyers, film financiers and distributors. Selected projects will stand a chance to win prizes at the end of the SAFF Project Market Closing Ceremony.

Creative Content Association Malaysia (CCAM) is an industry led government funded association comprising leading content creators in Malaysia. It is formed in 2012 for the express purpose of promoting and exporting local content and creative services to overseas markets and international broadcasters. CCAM is fully supported by the National Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
